And so the Shortest Day came, and the year died.<\/span><\/address>\n
And everywhere down the centuries of the snow-white world<\/span><\/address>\n
Cam<\/span>e people singing, dancing,<\/span><\/address>\n
To drive the dark away.<\/span><\/address>\n
They lighted candles in the winter trees;<\/span><\/address>\n
They hung their homes with evergreen;<\/span><\/address>\n
They burned beseeching fires all night long<\/span><\/address>\n
To keep the year alive.<\/span><\/address>\n
And when the new year\u2019s sunshine blazed awake<\/span><\/address>\n
They shouted, reveling.<\/span><\/address>\n
Through all the frosty ages you can hear them<\/span><\/address>\n
Echoing behind us\u2014listen!<\/span><\/address>\n
All the long echoes, sing the same delight,<\/span><\/address>\n
This Shortest Day,<\/span><\/address>\n
As promise wakens in the sleeping land:<\/span><\/address>\n
They carol, feast, give thanks,<\/span><\/address>\n
And dearly love their friends,<\/span><\/address>\n
And hope for peace.<\/span><\/address>\n
And now so do we, here, now,<\/span><\/address>\n
This year, and every year.<\/span><\/address>\n
Welcome Yule!<\/span><\/address>\n
