Yesterday was the birthday of Irish playwright and poet John Millington Synge (1871-1909) and today the anniversary of my mother\u2019s passing. To honor both the poet and the gardener, I post this poem and a new painting.<\/p>\n

May seven tears in every week,
\nTouch the hollow of your cheek,
\nThat I\u2014signed with such a dew\u2014
\nFor the Lion\u2019s share may sue
\nOf roses ever curled
\nRound the may-pole of the world.
\nHeavy riddles lie in this,
\nSorrow\u2019s sauce for every kiss.<\/p>\n
