Although it stills feels as hot and muggy as midsummer here in Washington, DC, it is actually the first day of autumn in the northern hemisphere. So, a painting and a poem in celebration. The leaves are changing color; we await those crisp cool blue-sky days. And wait… Happy Autumn, everyone.<\/p>\n

The Maple with its tassell flowers of green
\nThat turns to red, a stag horn shap\u00e8d seed
\nJust spreading out its scallopped leaves is seen,
\nOf yellowish hue yet beautifully green.
\nBark ribb\u2019d like corderoy in seamy screed
\nThat farther up the stem is smoother seen,
\nWhere the white hemlock with white umbel flowers
\nUp each spread stoven to the branches towers
\nAnd mossy round the stoven spread dark green
\nAnd blotched leaved orchis and the blue-bell flowers\u2014
\nThickly they grow and neath the leaves are seen.
\nI love to see them gemm\u2019d with morning hours.
\nI love the lone green places where they be
\nAnd the sweet clothing of the Maple tree.<\/p>\n
