Well, it’s sleeting, and snow is on the way. But it IS the first day of spring. So,\u00a0a poem by Robert Lax, and a painting.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Over the back of the Florida basker,
\nover the froth of the Firth of Forth,
\nUp from Tahiti and Madagascar,
\nLo, the sun walks north.<\/p>\n

The first bright day makes sing the slackers
\nWhile leaves explode like firecrackers,
\nThe duck flies forth to greet the spring
\nAnd sweetly municipal pigeons sing.<\/p>\n

Where the duck quacks, where the bird sings,
\nWe will speak of past things.<\/p>\n

Come out with your marbles, come out with your Croup,
\nThe grass is as green as a Girl Scout troop;
\nIn the Mall the stone acoustics stand
\nLike a listening ear for the Goldman band.<\/p>\n

At an outside table, where the sun\u2019s bright glare is,
\nWe will speak of darkened Paris.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, like attendants who hasten the hoofs
\nOf the ponies who trot in the shadow of roofs,
\nThe sun, in his running, will hasten the plan
\nOf plants and fishes, beast and man.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ll turn our eyes to the sogging ground
\nAnd guess if the earth is cracked or round.<\/p>\n

Over the plans of the parties at strife,
\nOver the planes in the waiting north,
\nOver the average man and his wife,
\nLo, the sun walks forth!<\/p>\n
