Artists of Woodley Park

Two of the paintings in my Washington National Cathedral series will be on exhibit in the Artists of Woodley Park show opening October 17, 2019. I’m looking forward to seeing work of the more than 20 Woodley Park artists included, and I hope some of you might make your way there this fall.

Run Stacey Run!

Went to hear the multi-talented Stacey Abrams talk about her new book, Lead from the Outside: How to Build Your Future and Make Real Change. I’d thought of her strictly as a politician and had had no idea of the range of her accomplishments (lawyer, business founder, romance novelist!). I’m hoping she’ll set those temporarily aside in favor of a race for the Senate…or beyond…

What Every Girl Should Know

If there is a YA child, neighbor, or friend in your life, here is a book for their gift list. At Politics and Prose Bookstore, author J. Albert Mann spoke with author Mary Quattlebaum about What Every Girl Should Know, Mann’s new historical novel featuring the adolescent Margaret Sanger (reminder: Sanger was an early advocate of birth control and women’s rights). Young Margaret sounds as spunky, tenacious, and funny as the author did herself during the discussion.

Yet Another Book About This Craziness

Where I spent the morning of October 3rd: listening to a discussion of the research that led to the creation of this book (one to add to the growing stack at my bedside) — The Apprentice: Trump, Russia and the Subversion of American Democracy. Here is a link to an interview with author Greg Miller on Fresh Air.

Hill Center Exhibition

My gun control comic, “Thoughts and Prayers,” has been accepted into the Hill Center Galleries annual regional exhibition. I don’t know how THAT’s going to look hanging among the paintings and sculpture. But I’m glad it’s there. The opening reception is Wednesday, June 27th, 6:30 to 8:30pm. Come one, come all!

If you can’t make the reception, and do not already know the Hill Center on Capitol Hill, located in the renovated Old Naval Hospital, you ought to check out its wonderful series of events and activities.

The Panties, the Partner, and the Profit

Sketches from a reading of David Ives’ play, The Panties, the Partner, and the Profit: Scenes from the Heroic Life of the Middle Class, at the Lansburgh.  It’s another of Ives’ clever and amusing “translaptations,” and I look forward to seeing the full stage production during Michael Kahn’s last season.
